How safe are the materials that Scot-Free uses?

At Scot-Free, it's our business to fully understand and respect the products that we use. We apply these federally registered products only when needed. Rest assured that when a Scot-Free professional applies any material around your property, it's done in a manner that is effective in reducing a pest population, but with your safety in mind.

How will outside treatments affect my plants or pets?

Exterior applications will not harm your plants, flower beds or shrubs. Since these materials may not be labeled for use on edible plants, however, we cannot directly treat a vegetable garden. If liquids are used to treat your ground or lawn, simply keep your pets off the area until it is dry -- approximately thre

If it rains, will outside treatment wash away?

No. When a liquid residual product dries after application, the solvents and emulsifiers evaporate, leaving a durable residual that is affected little by rain. Granular products control pests after being moistened by rain or watering. Insect baits, however, are placed in protected areas to keep excess moisture from reducing their effectiveness.

Is there anything I can do to help prevent pests in my home?

Your Scot-Free service professional will inspect your property during your service and provide a list of recommendations for correcting conditions that contribute to pest infestations. If you would like, he or she will show you these areas, and may even suggest a course of action.

Why should I hire a professional pest control operator when I can do it myself?

Do-it yourself pest control is certainly an option for homeowners, however, most homeowners lack the knowledge and training that professionals have to treat pest problems effectively. An essential component in treating a pest problem effectively is to correctly identify the insect species and develop a course of treatment that takes the insect's biology and habits into account. It is also critical that the treatment materials used are handled properly to ensure effective treatment and environmental responsibility. A professional pest control operator has the training and expertise to do these things leading to the most effective solution to your pest problem. If you do choose to handle your pest problem yourself, be sure to follow all label directions carefully.

I had a swarm of what I think are flying ants in my home, and a friend told me they might be termites.  How can I tell the difference?

Termites are often confused with ants; however, a few simple things distinguished the two. Termite swarmers have a broad waist, straight antennae and both wings are the same size. Ants have a thin, pinched waist, elbowed antennae, and their hind wings are smaller than the front wings.
